題目:Bang for the Buck Through Dissemination and Implementation: Overview of An Emerging Field of Research

摘要:

In the United States alone, over $100 billion are invested annually in biomedical and health-related research.  Most of the investment produces scientific publications that sit on shelves, gathering dust and leading to little practical application.  A review estimates that it takes 17 years to turn 14% of original research to the benefit of patient care.  Apparently, dissemination and implementation of scientific evidence does not just happen if we wait for it.  New information and systematic understanding of how discovery is turned into application are needed in order to bring society the full return on our collective investment in research.  This presentation provides an overview of an emerging field, dissemination and implementation (D&I) research, which is aimed to increase the efficiency of the research enterprise and to apply research findings to improve outcomes in the broad community.  The presentation will cover the origin and history of D&I research, explain what D&I research is, provide examples that illustrate the challenge of D&I, and discuss key questions and main methodological issues in D&I research.
